Balatonring rider Balázs Németh suffered a crash yesterday in turn four of the Cheste circuit in Valencia during the first of a two-day test for the team. On his final run of the day, at around 5pm, he lost control of his Aprilia and crashed. It initially seemed like an innocuous fall but the Hungarian was experiencing some pain in his left hand and went to the circuit medical centre for a check-up.
The circuit doctors detected a broken fourth metacarpal, an injury that was confirmed by x-rays at the Nueve de Octubre hospital in Valencia, where Doctor Enrique Gastaldi's team also picked up on a luxation to his fifth metacarpal. The rider was kept in hospital overnight and was visited by Doctor Gastaldi this morning, when he was told he would need an operation.
Prior to the operation Balász has undergone a CAT scan to double check the extent of the injury and to make sure there is no other as yet undetected damage. He will undergo surgery at approximately 2pm today.
