Statement by the FIM regarding Simoncelli's reckless riding...
"On Sunday 31st May, during the 250cc race, rider Marco Simoncelli (ITA) rode in an irresponsible manner, causing danger to rider Alvaro Bautista (SPA), which is an infringement to the Art. 1.21.2 of the 2009 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations. The Race Direction has decided to penalize rider Marco Simoncelli with a warning as to his future conduct, which means any further incident of the same nature this year may result in a suspension and to impose him a fine of USD 5,000.
No appeal has been lodged.
The decision of the Race Direction is final."

Italian GP - Alvaro Bautista robbed of win by Simoncelli
Another overeager move from Marco Simoncelli saw Mapfre Aspar's rider Alvaro Bautista robbed of the win at Mugello. Running away at the front in the early laps was Simoncelli, but Mattia Pasini and Alvaro Bautista soon caught him after closing a huge 9-second gap. Once arriving at Simoncelli while constantly clocking the fastest laptimes and having passed Pasini earlier, Bautista made a move for the lead and headed the trio for several laps in the wet race before Simoncelli once again overestimated his own speed, trying to pass Bautista in a corner, but having no space to do so, subsequently forcing both riders wide and going out in the gravel, handing Pasini a comfortable lead. Simoncelli came out from the gravel still in second with Bautista in third. With still 9 laps to go Bautista once again caught up with Simoncelli, closing another big 4-second gap, but then having a scary moment on the bike and finally finishing the race in third position, only a second behind winner Pasini. Undeniably the fastest rider during the race, the incident with Simoncelli denied Bautista a very possible win and didn't do anything to increase the already tense relationship between the two.
The incident is under investigation by race direction. And the authors of this Blog hope that the administration might finally do something about Simoncelli's reckless riding and penalize him for his actions, he'd surely deserve it.

Italian GP - Quali Quotes 125cc & 250cc

125cc
1st Bradley Smith 1.58.134 (17 laps): "It has been a great day for me, setting pole position and a new lap record with it. My race pace is also really good. I was extremely focused today and everything worked out. I've been on pole before and I know that it doesn't necessarily meaning everything is perfect for tomorrow. It is always difficult to escape when there's a straight as long as this one and I think we're going to see about eight or even ten riders fighting in the front group. So far it's been a fantastic weekend and now I'm just hoping for a good start tomorrow. We made a few adjustments to improve the front end feel today and to be honest I don't think we can make it much better now. The Aprilia engine is working perfectly and that will be crucial to make sure we don't lose even the slightest bit of time on the straight tomorrow. There are obviously a few riders ahead of the game but like I said before I think it will be a group race and even the slightest mistake will be paid for dearly."
3rd Julián Simón 1.58.575 (17 laps): "I'm really happy with how practice has gone. I would have loved to be on pole because I was fastest in both free practice sessions so I'm pretty gutted about that but I'm also happy for Smith because it was an incredible lap. My main plan for the race is to get a good start and then just keep my pace up because I know it is good. My Aprilia is completely ready so the target is to win and if that's not possible then finish the race and score points. I think it will be a group race of only three or four riders and it will be a fight for the win between Smith and myself. It's going to be fun and I think it will go right to the wire. Past races at Mugello have shown that the person who leads out of the last corner doesn't usually win so we'll see what happens."
4th Sergio Gadea 1.58.621 (16 laps): "I'm happy that we've been consistent today and I want to keep it going. I suppose it will be the usual group race here tomorrow so I'll try to stay in touch with the lead group and then play my cards right at the end. The most important thing will be to finish with as many points as possible. Smith is looking really strong and Simón will be able to go with him more easily than I will, but hopefully it will be tight. I was able to follow Julián on the last lap and I could see where he was getting away from me, so that is something for us to work on for tomorrow and if we improve these areas I'll be more comfortable. I've been working on my pace through the final corner all weekend but you never know what can happen there in the race so we won't worry about it too much and we'll see what happens."
250cc
1st Álvaro Bautista 1.52.804 (20 laps): "The truth is that the times are very close! Things didn't go well this morning and I wasn't comfortable on the bike. I didn't have a good feeling with the front and couldn't brake well or get into the turns as I like. We stiffened the front up a little for the afternoon and it felt like a different bike. I immediately recovered the good feeling I was missing this morning and felt I could do a low 1'52, which I managed. I think we've done a great job and our pace is good. All of the riders on the front row are going to want to win at all cost, each of us for their own reasons, so it will be tough. I'll try to get a good start and stay with the lead group but I'm sure it's going to be a close battle like Jerez. It is highly satisfying to set pole but the gap between the front three is tight so the important thing tomorrow will be to stay focused."
14th Mike Di Meglio 1.54.363 (18 laps): "I had a few problems with my right forearm again and I could hardly brake - I was losing feeling for my Aprilia in every corner. I tried to recover as much as I could over lunch for qualifying and then tried to follow a couple of riders over the opening laps to set a good pace and get some references, but my confidence was low. I'm disappointed because under normal circumstances I'm sure I could have done much better. I'm fourteenth on the grid and it will be strange to be so far from the front but I'll push myself to the limit to have a good race. I just have to get a great start and stay focused to try and make up as many positions as possible. I'll spend this evening in the Clinica to try and get in the best possible shape for the race. With the way this weekend is going, a top ten finish will be a good result."
Italian GP - Mugello - Pole for Bautista
Mapfre Aspar rider Alvaro Bautista won his third pole position of the season in a closely fought battle with Simoncelli and Barbera who will start tomorrow's race from 2nd and 3rd on the grid. Current second-placed rider in the championship, Hiroshi Aoyama, took the final spot of the front row. With all four riders having won one race each it is likely that the Italian GP will see the first double winner of the season.
Bautista's teammate Mike Di Meglio continued to struggle with the setup for the Italian track and finished the qualifying only in 14th position.
Hungarian rider Balazs Nemeth qualified 22nd and will be happy about that achievement, riding the 250cc Aprilia only the second day ever.

Italian GP - Mugello - FP1 Quotes125cc & 250cc

125cc
1st Julián Simón 1.59.437 (21 laps): “The weather has been kind to us all day, which is very important. The heat has taken its toll on the tyre but my Aprilia was phenomenal all session and the team worked really well again. I feel as though leadership of the championship has given me extra confidence and motivation. It’s a different feeling and I hope I hold on to it as the season progresses. Anyway, we won’t get it for free and we have to work and fight hard in every session towards winning more races. Hopefully we can have two more good sessions tomorrow and get a good set-up for the race. The work we did today was based around the tyres and aerodynamics, which is really important here with the slipstreams.”
2nd Sergio Gadea 1.59.721 (23 laps): “I’m happy because everything went well from the first lap. The engine on my Aprilia is working perfectly because of the great job my mechanics are doing and I think we’re starting to reap the fruit. It is really important that we have the confidence and calmness to go fast from the first session although today wasn’t all plain sailing because as always Mugello is bumpy and it’s tricky to find the right set-up. I used the same rear tyre for virtually the whole session and then set a fast lap on a new tyre at the end, which was good enough for second. We have a few issues in the cycle part of my Aprilia but I’m sure we can sort them out tomorrow.”
4th Bradley Smith 1.59.862 (21 laps): “I think it was a good session and with an hour you can test a lot of things. I’m happy with the rear end setting of my Aprilia – at the beginning it was too soft and I was struggling to get on the throttle coming out of the corners but we improved it a lot as the session went on. I imagine the heat affects me more than the locals because I’m English and I’m not used to it! Provisional fourth place, four tenths off and with room for improvement, isn’t a bad start. We’ll work more with the front end tomorrow because having confidence in it through the fast corners here is crucial. Basically the idea will be to make the bike more rigid to try and gain a little stability.”
250cc
1st Álvaro Bautista 1.53.814 (26 laps): “It is only the first session, but it is obviously always better to be up at the front. I think that we had a good practice, and at the end I was putting in a string of pretty fast laps. The last lap of the session saw me clock my quickest time, without even changing tyres, something that shows that we can go even faster. The confidence that knowing that we have been working well since preseason means that I can go much faster and concentrate more. Being the series leader also takes the heat off, but it is still too early to say what will happen on Sunday. In any case, we’ve started well and I am going to try and win at all cost. My mentality is a winning one, and we want to fight for victory at every race. I love the track, but it is demanding because you have to unlock the secret to three or four parts to go fast.“
13th Mike Di Meglio 1.55.978 (21 laps): “I really didn’t expect it to be so difficult to adapt here, as it is a circuit that I love. With the 250cc bike it is hard to get reference points. I am going to try and work out what I need for tomorrow, because we are far off fast lap times. I’m convinced that we can do this if we keep working like we have been. With the 125cc you corner quickly here, but with the 250cc the direction changes are harder. The bike isn’t as agile and it feels heavier. The last race went the opposite way: good practices and a tough race, but I’m sure that we will be able to do what it takes to have a good Sunday.”
Balazs Nemeth: "This first encounter has been a tough one, because everything was completely new for me. From the team to the bike and the track, it was a lot to get used to. I'd never ridden a two stroke before, so I spent the entire session adjusting my riding position and style on the Aprilia. I improved step by step, but there wasn't much time to improve. I hope to continue getting better tomorrow, in order to have a good race on Sunday."
Italian GP - Mugello - 250cc Results FP1
Mixed fortunes for the 250cc Aspar riders on the first day in Mugello. While championship leader Alvaro Bautista dominated the second half of the first practice session, constantly lapping similarly fast times, his teammate Mike Di Meglio struggled with the Italian track and only finished the first day in 13th position.
New addition Balázs Nemeth still needs to get used to the 250cc machinery and didn't make it over the 107% limit time.

Balázs Németh replacing Gabor Talmcsi

The 20-year-old rider from Budapest is registered for the Italian GP this weekend and will ride for the first time in a 250cc race. So far it seems like he will continue the season with the latest Aprilia RSA.
Németh has been riding Supermoto, Endurance and Superstock in recent years. After a visit to World Supersport in 2008, he went back to the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup this year.

Aspar And Talmacsi Confirm Parting Of The Ways

Jorge Martinez "Aspar", visiting Budapest today, held a press conference to confirm that he and Gábor Talmácsi could not reach common agreement: the Hungarian pilot will not ride the motor of Balatonring Team any longer. Following the private negotiations starting at 13.00 pm both of them emphasized during a press conference that the "divorce" was a friendly one and the main cause of their disagreement was the question of the communication and media rights in Hungary.
Aspar made it clear that it was evident that the communication could not go on the same way in 2009 as it was in the former two years: the formation of the new Balatonring Team and the immense weight of Balatonring project had created a brand new situation and the communication has to be in perfect unison with it.
The Balatonring Team will operate without Gábor Talmácsi from now on; a new talented Hungarian pilot will start his career in the team.
Jorge Martinez said:
"We introduced in this very place in March our new team the Balatonring Team and its new sponsors: Grupo Milton, Logistic Land and Sedesa. We are also really grateful to Aprilia. I reckon we really made very good progress through the first three GPs of this year but Gábor decided to terminate the contract. We came to Budapest now to settle the problematic issues with Gábor, but unfortunately we didn't reach common agreement due to the question of the communication and media rights of Hungary.
I would like to make it very clear that my personal relation was always excellent to Gábor and now I can only wish the best to him both in his private and professional life. I am sad but we have to concentrate to the future and not the past! We keep on working on our Hungarian project, the team will go on and Balatonring circuit will be constructed in an even bigger size than it was originally planned.
Each party goes by in their respective ways: I can only wish Mr. Talmácsi be successful and let him find a new team for himself. We departed in peace, hence I may - in principle - agree his joining an other team during this season.
As you may know, we have a 125cc and a 250cc team, our teams are possessing good positions in the world championship, therefore I want to give extra attention to our Hungarian duties from now on and I will devote special efforts to make Balatonring Team successful. One thing is certain: a Hungarian pilot will take over the place of Gábor Talmácsi in our team."

French GP - 125cc & 250cc Quotes

250cc
4th Álvaro Bautista:
"That was a really difficult race because the track was so slippery. I tried to gradually get a feel for the track because the bike was moving around a lot and wouldn't hold the line. At the start I was trying to weigh up the race but the guys at the front pushed really hard and escaped. I gradually got into my rhythm and got faster and more comfortable. There were a lot of guys falling off in front of me so I decided the best option was to take it steady, finish the race and get some solid points on the board. Fourth place isn't the result I was hoping for but under the circumstances scoring points was the most important thing here at Le Mans. If we keep going like this then I'm sure we can maintain our consistently good form over the next races."
Mike Di Meglio (DNF):
"The crash was a shame because I wanted to score a good result here. At the start I had no feeling on the rear of my Aprilia and I was just hoping it would improve as the tyre got warmer. As the laps went by I wasn't feeling any more comfortable and the bike was still sliding around a lot. We knew the race would be tough in these conditions, especially taking into account how much our work has been affected by the weather during the weekend. I'm sorry I wasn't at least able to finish the race and score points. Now we just have to learn from this mistake and keep our heads up for the next race."
Ángel Rodríguez (DNF):
"To tell the truth I made a good start but had no pace. I knew it from the moment that I tried to push up at the front. I had a lot of motivation to have a good race, but maybe I paid the price for being too impetuous today. I wanted to get away when I saw myself at the front, but it didn't work out for me. I want to thank the team for their work during the entire weekend, making the adaptation as easy as possible for me. I want to thjnak Jorge as well, for giving me this opportunity. I think that we have done something good this weekend, and I know that with more time and dedication I could have finished in a good position. With work everything is possible."
125cc
1st Julián Simón:
"It was a difficult decision to run the tyres for the race, because it was raining all weekend but drying out quickly. We had our doubts over whether to keep the wet tyre for the entire race or not. The questions were answered for me when Terol took off at the start. I think he would have had a good race if he hadn't have crashed, but his crash helped me to clear my mind and up my pace -although it was hard not to lose focus. I am very happy with the result, and the team have been awesome as always. I dedicate the win to them and to my family. It is the first full race that I have won, and really I would have liked it to have been in normal conditions. This is a good way to end the weekend."
3rd Sergio Gadea:
"I saw that a loto f riders fell very easily, so from the start I concentrated on building my confidence and waiting to make my push. It was the intelligent option. As the laps went on I saw that I could be up there with Smith, but it was patience that saw me get past him. This podium is for my father and the team, who did a magnificent job. I am very happy to have taken two consecutive podiums, and I hope to continue with this form."
4th Bradley Smith:
"It was an incredible race, and although I would have liked to take the podium after the win at Jerez, the conditions made things hard. The left side of the rear tyre was giving me problems, and I had trouble with the left handers. The back was sliding out a lot. With this in mind, the race seemed to last forever and I think that fourth is a good result. These thirteen points help us to arrive at Mugello confident and happy, looking for another great result."

French GP - Team Quotes, Qualifying

250cc
1st Álvaro Bautista 1.38.270 (23 laps):
"It was quite windy during qualifying but the track conditions were good. If it doesn't rain or something strange then I guess the race will be between the same guys that were fighting for pole today. This is quite a short circuit so I can't see anybody escaping and I'd expect a group race. Hopefully it can be as much fun as Jerez but with a win at the end of it! The important thing will be to get a good start because it is more difficult to pass here than at a lot of other tracks and it will be crucial to be on the pace over the early laps so as not to lose touch with the lead group. This circuit is more favourable to the Hondas but we'll try and fight for victory. It is obviously important to be consistent but if I see an opportunity to go for the win then I will do so, I won't be holding back. My pole time today was better than last year which shows that we have a good package."
5th Mike Di Meglio 1.39.003 (20 laps):
"I'm really happy with the result - mainly because we have done a lot of work and in the end it has paid off. I managed a 39.0 this afternoon but I think I could have gone even faster if I had a bit more feel on the rear. We played with the set-up a little to try and shave off a few more tenths and I felt comfortable but we ran out of time to improve it further. Anyway, I'm happy because we're fifth on the grid and we can still improve the bike in the warm-up. The track didn't have as much grip as we might have hoped and the wind made it tricky to ride but hopefully the conditions will be better tomorrow. It looks like it's going to be a really close race so I hope to get a good start and give myself a chance of running at the front from the beginning."
16th Ángel Rodríguez 1.40.620 (19 laps):
"It is a long time since I rode a two-stroke in the wet and I crashed this morning just because I didn't have any feeling in the hard-braking zones. In qualifying we worked carefully to try and solve some chattering problems we were having with the front and made a few changes to the chassis that worked well. I've slowly dropped my times and I'm pretty happy with the result taking into account this is only my second day on the bike. I want to thank the team for giving me this opportunity and for the patience they are showing with me. We have taken a big step forward but I want to make full use of the warm-up tomorrow and improve even further. It will be a tough race because my pace isn't great but that is normal considering how long it has been since I rode a two-stroke. I'll do my best to have fun and if possible finish in the points."
125cc
6th Bradley Smith 1.48.115 (15 laps):
"The positive side of today was that I was really quick this morning and I quickly built up my confidence. I think the most important thing in those conditions is to stay upright. Unfortunately I crashed this afternoon but thankfully it wasn't a big one and I was able to get back out on track. Hopefully we get a dry race tomorrow but this is Le Mans and the weather always plays a part in the race. It's going to be a tough race because after a weekend like this I don't think anybody is going into it with everything under control. It is hard to make any predictions but I guess whatever the conditions are we'll have the same guys running up front as usual."
7th Julián Simón 1.48.334 (16 laps):
"Both sessions today were a bit of a disaster with the weather but in any case it's the same for everybody and the guy who gets it right sets the fastest time. I'm disappointed not to be on the front row but I'm calm and confident for the race because I know we've got a good pace. The main target for tomorrow is to try and finish the race and pick up as many points as possible. It will depend on the track conditions but we'll weigh the situation up once the race starts. A lot of guys improved today and it looks like we'll finally have a typical 125 race tomorrow, with a lot of guys up at the front. I just hope to be up there fighting for the podium and maybe even the win, who knows?"
12th Sergio Gadea 1.50.239 (16 laps):
"We're obviously no the best of friends with our tyres because like in Japan we made the wrong choice today. We've been up front all weekend but lost our way a little bit this afternoon. We're starting from twelfth, which I'm not too upset about because it could have been a lot worse. I don't tend to struggle at the start so if it's dry I'll try and get straight onto the pace I've been doing all weekend. If it's wet I'll have to take things steadily to make sure we don't crash out and just finish in the points. There have been a lot of crashes over the past couple of days so we'll have to be very focused to make sure it doesn't happen to us. I just hope we get either wet or dry conditions for the race but not a mixture because it will turn the race into a lottery."

Jorge Martinez Speaks Out On Talmacsi Situation

"I would like to make clear that the relationship between myself -both professionally and personally- and Gábor Talmacsi over these past three years has been excellent. I have absolutely no idea of why this decision has been taken at this stage of the championship, after just three races. Gábor is fifth in the standings, one point off fourth, in his first 250cc season.
Grupo Milton as our main sponsor and all the other supporters are delighted with the Balatonring Team project, and our feelings are the same. We think that this is a hugely solid project for Hungary, Gábor and the team, so for this reason it is a real pity that the interests of certain individuals -in this case the Manager of Gábor Talmacsi- have taken priority. It is honestly the first time in 28 years that I have witnessed a situation like this.
It is frankly incomprehensible that a World Champion can make a decision like this, putting his sporting career in jeopardy over a disagreement over image rights. It hurts me a lot, but I want to make clear that I would love to continue with Gábor Talmacsi as the Balatonring Team's rider. I consider the allegation made by Gábor's lawyer, regarding a supposed lack of material, unjustified.
We have an RSA factory bike that Bautista, Simoncelli and the other top riders have, and the championship results speak for themselves. During all the time that we have worked together the relationship has been magnificent, even up until the last race at Jerez. To find ourselves caught up in this situation just a week later is a big surprise for both myself and the team. I really don't understand it at all, and I think that it is clearly not a problem of the economic kind, nor in our working relationship, but rather a personal one on the part of Gábor's manager.
The most important thing is not to lose sight of our good relationship, which have taken us to a 125cc title in 2007 and third place last year. I have still been unable to talk to Gábor, and that saddens me most of all, because I consider that this situation has not been created by either him or ourselves."

French GP - Team Friday Quotes

250cc
1st Álvaro Bautista 1.39.302 (25 laps):
"It has been a good first day and even though it rained a little during MotoGP the weather has been good to us and we were able to work for the whole session. We had a few small problems with changing direction but we've worked well on that aspect and I was able to keep up a good pace. We can still improve corner entry and I'm not completely comfortable under hard braking. The track temperature tends to be low here so we didn't want to take any risks but if the weather stays decent tomorrow we'll try a harder tyre. The key is to get the bike as stable as possible, which is what we'll aim for tomorrow. It is important to have this result in the first session but we have to stay focused because everybody will improve tomorrow."
3rd Mike Di Meglio 1.39.501 (23 laps):
"I'm very happy - this is the first time I've enjoyed myself on the bike from the first session of a Grand Prix. In previous rounds I've been making mistakes, especially under braking, but this time I got a feeling for my Aprilia from the first laps. The bike is working perfectly and that allowed me to build up my confidence. We tried a new cylinder today and the truth is the difference was very noticeable. Hopefully we can keep going like this all weekend. I love this track and I'd love to get a good result here. Even though we've made a good start I want to keep working hard tomorrow to get a good grid position. Apart from the engine update we've also tried a new position on the bike to try and combat some pain in my right forearm and it worked well."
17th Ángel Rodríguez 1.41.403 (19 laps):
"To be honest I was pretty uncomfortable throughout that session because I'm not used to riding the Aprilia, which is normal considering that I usually ride a four-stroke. I also had a few problems with my leathers, which made me even less comfortable, so I'm happy with the result. I was expecting my first ride to be more difficult than this and despite the problems we've done a good job. I was pushing a bit too hard before the crash and I think that was why it happened. I still don't have a good feeling under braking but sometimes it is good to make a mistake and know why it happened so that you can make sure it doesn't happen again. The key to making improvements will be to get a lot more laps in and get used to the bike because it is so new to me. If we do that then my confidence will build up as a result."
125cc
2nd Julián Simón 1.45.469 (21 laps):
"I'm happy because we were expecting worse weather than this and in the end it was dry. We tried to prepare the bike as much as possible within the hour and get ready for Sunday. I think we're on the right lines, we just need to improve the feeling with the front in three corners. I'm satisfied because once again the team is looking strong. I did a practice start because I think it is the area we need to focus on the most at the moment - to get away well and run at the front from the first lap. It has been a good day so hopefully we can follow it up with more work in dry conditions tomorrow. Either way I think it will be like Jerez in that there will be three or four riders fighting it out."
3rd Sergio Gadea 1.45.486 (22 laps):
"I set a good pace throughout the session - firstly lapping on my own and then in a group. I like this circuit a lot and I feel highly motivated, thanks partly to my second place at Jerez. There was a moment in the session when we lost our way a little but I quickly got my feeling back with the Aprilia. I've said all season so far that there are a couple of riders who are ahead of the rest but I feel we're closing the gap. We've focused on building my confidence with the set-up today and we've taken a step forward although we still have work to do tomorrow. The engine on the Aprilia worked perfectly, allowing us to focus on geometry."
5th Bradley Smith 1.46.087 (21 laps):
"We spent a lot of time testing things today - nothing new, just making sure that the settings we had before Jerez are still working. I could have done with a few more laps because I was only able to push for two laps and I'm sure I could have improved more. Anyway, it's only the first day and I'm close to the top guys so I'm satisfied and convinced that we've made a good start. We have some work to do tomorrow but we're optimistic and confident we'll be ready for Sunday."
Balatonring Team Issues Statement Over Talmacsi
The Balatonring Team has issued a statement following yesterday's shock announcement of the withdrawl of Gabor Talmacsi from the squad...
Balatonring Team - Le Mans Circuit - 15/05/09
BALATONRING TEAM DISAGREES WITH THE SITUATION PROVOKED BY GÁBOR TALMÁCSI AND HIS ENVIRONMENT
The news has been unexpected for Balatonring Team, which is already in France since yesterday to take part in Grand Prix of France.
After recent news in the media accusing Balatonring Team for breach of the contractual relation with pilot Gábor Talmácsi, the Hungarian team denies these accusations. In fulfilment with his sports obligations, the team has moved the team staff and infrastructure to Le Mans Circuit, to take part in the Grand Prix of France, which will begin tomorrow.
The news has been unexpected for the whole Balatonring Team, which is already in France since yesterday. The team considers groundless the accusations alleged by their pilot Gábor Talmácsi regarding this season's limited provided material due to several reasons:
One of them is summarized in the excellent results achieved by the pilot during the first three tests of the championship, something impossible to obtain achieve if he is not provide with the appropriate material. The second reason regards the confidence placed in him by the leader of the project Balatonring Team, Jorge Martínez "Aspar", who decided to choose the Hungarian pilot in 2007 despite his dicreet performance in the previous world championship, and put at his disposal the means of one of the World Championship's most experienced structures -the Aspar Team - to make him World Champion.
The last reason shows again the confidence of Jorge Martinez in pilot Gábor Talmácsi, searching for a reputed sponsor for this campaign - Milton Group- to create a team exclusively designed for the former World Champion. Thus, Balatonring team finds enough reasons to be in total disagreement with the attitude taken by the Hungarian pilot and his environment, and feels deeply disappointed to be led to such a situation.
Balatonring Team wishes to thank the tremendous support provided by Milton Group and its main representative, Bence Kovács, who despite the incidents has not turn his back on the team and continues to rely on the experience of Jorge Martinez to take the Hungarian project forward.
Jorge Martínez said "The truth is that I did not expect this reaction in any way. This year we had created a new team exclusively designed for Gábor. It has been hard to take the project forward, but we have never surrendered or stopped fighting to offer the best material and support. I feel a tremendous disappointment to be involved in this situation, and I hope that when everything is over, Gábor will realize how much he had bet on him. Of course I completely disagree with his statements and if we cannot manage to cordially reach an agreement, I will proceed as necessary to defend our interests."

Talmacsi replaced by Rodriguez
In a shock press notice today the management of Gabor Talmacsi announced that the Hungarian will not participate in the French GP this weekend and furthermore will part ways with the Aspar Team due to apparent contractual disagreements.
According to the press release the Hungarian rider has not yet received the promised second bike and certain rights have been sold to third parties which should have been negotiated with his management first.
Jorge Martinez is said to talk about the matter in a press conference tomorrow as the team does not seem to agree with the statements made in the press release of Talmacsi's management.
As a replacement rider for Gabor Talmacsi the Spanish Supersport champion Angel Rodriguez will fly to France on short notice tonight and participate in the first practice tomorrow.
Updates on the matter as soon as news emerge.

Team Quotes Ahead Of Le Mans

250cc
Álvaro Bautista:
"I've never been on the podium at Le Mans so hopefully I can keep up the good form I've started the season with and it would be nice to get this particular monkey off my back. I feel highly motivated after Jerez because it was a fabulous race in which we proved that we are ready to take on anybody in a head to head battle. Hopefully the weather is good to us in practice so that we can work on the bike because Le Mans is a twisty circuit that tends to suit the Hondas. We have to work really well on the chassis if we want to compete with them. Le Mans is a circuit that features a lot of direction changes, and you need a really sweet handling chassis so that you can get through the corners well."
Mike Di Meglio:
"The weekend didn't end well at Jerez because I had a problem with my right forearm but I have tried to rest and stretch it out as much as possible so that I'm fit for my home race at Le Mans. I'll continue with the stretching exercises and the physiotherapy and hopefully I'll be fully recovered. I love Le Mans as a circuit and I really hope I can perform well in front of my fans. The weather is usually quite changeable so I hope it doesn't rain so that we have chance during practice to prepare for a good race. I love the chicanes and there are a few different kinds of corners here - it is really important to base the set-up around having good acceleration."
Gábor Talmácsi:
"Having analysed the last Grand Prix I am not totally satisfied because we had some problems with the rear end of the bike that we didn't mange to completely solve. Seventh place was a decent result at Jerez but I honestly believe that both myself and my team have the potential to compete at a much higher level. To be honest Le Mans is not a circuit that particularly captures my imagination. I crashed out of the lead there last year so this is the ideal opportunity to make up for that. I suppose there'll be a few question marks when we first get there because this is my first time at this track on this bike but I'm looking forward to learning some more. In Japan we showed that we have the potential to be up at the front so there is no reason why we can't target a top five finish this weekend."
125cc
Julián Simón:
"I feel highly motivated and I'm looking forward to putting what happened at Jerez behind me. Hopefully after the strange events in Qatar, Japan and Jerez this can be a more normal race for me. Le Mans is a circuit I like and I've always gone well here. Last year I was fighting for the podium and this year I think that if we can find a good base set-up on Friday we can be very competitive. As far as I am concerned I need to make sure I learn from my mistake in Jerez, not hinder my prospects of a good result by being impatient and ensure that I come out of the French Grand Prix with as many points as possible. At Le Mans it is important to be really hard on the brakes, so I think it is a place that suits my riding style."
Bradley Smith:
"I've really enjoyed the past week reflecting on the win and I think it's going to give us a huge boost for the rest of the season. I've always had good results at Le Mans in the past - I finished third here in 2007, which was my first podium, and in 2008 I was second. I'm sure that it won't be easy but I'll be trying to repeat the result from Jerez. We need to prepare perfectly from the moment practice starts on Friday to make sure that everything is in place for us to go into battle on Sunday. Le Mans is a fairly straightforward circuit but it's always difficult to squeeze those last couple of tenths out of the bike, which is what makes the difference. But personally I like it because the level of performance between the bikes is very similar and it is up to the rider to make the difference."
Sergio Gadea:
"We had a magnificent result at Jerez and to go to France on the back of second place a week ago gives me a lot of confidence in my chances. I've always gone well at Le Mans and I've got great memories of my first victory there and my first World Championship podium. I always seem to go fast from the first moment I get onto the track and get on the pace straight away. It would be perfect to put a couple of podiums together - I know I can do well so I'm going out to try and win. It is too early to make any predictions but when we get there and put a couple of laps on the board we'll soon know what we're capable of."

Jerez GP - Post-Race Quotes; 250cc & 125cc
250cc
2nd Álvaro Bautista:
"This second place tasted like victory for me. Obviously I know that first is always better, but we were really battling out there at 100%. Before the race I wasn't sure of what my race pace would be like, not knowing if I could keep up, as during the practice sessions I couldn't find the right pace. In the warmup we worked on the setting and found a new configuration that I really liked, and when I saw the crowd I knew that I had to leave any excuses behind me and go for a good result. Jorge told me to remember 2007 just before I went out, and the motivation worked. At the end of the race I tried to take the victory, but it was a pity that Hiroshi is so fantastic on the brakes. I tried to do it later but it wasn't possible, he was at the limit. We finished second but it is almost a victory, and I learnt that we will never back down."
11th Mike Di Meglio:
"I didn't have a good start, but quickly I was able to come back. I felt comfortable riding, but I began to notice a sharp pain in my right forearm. Lap after lap it hurt more and more, and I couldn't brake hard nor accelerate hard. On the corners I was suffereing, andi t was difficult to grit out the race. It was a pity, because the bike was working perfectly and I think that I could have had a great race. It might be a suit problem, but next time out at Le Mans I want to be the best that I can be for my home race."
7th Gábor Talmácsi:
"We had a lot to get our heads around this weekend, with the rear grip. We made a lot of changes but were unable to gain confidence, which we needed. We made a lot of changes in the warmup and found some Solutions that helped in the race, but I started pretty badly and had to regain places. It was fun, and got me feeling better on my Aprilia. At the end I was able to pass Locatelli, and took seventh at the flag. I took points, and kept up the learning process in the class. I'm happy with that, and want to continue at this good level."
125cc
1st Bradley Smith:
"The bike went awesome today, and I can't thank my team enough. I was able to get away and had an extremely fast pace for the whole race. In the last seven laps I had a fifth gear problem that cut the advantage, but I knew how to bring the bike home for the win. Iannone, Simón and I had the best pace over the weekend, and I knew that if nothing strange happened I would out in front alone. I want to thank the entire team for their work since I joined, and it is so satisfying to see that our hard winter work has paid off. "
2nd Sergio Gadea:
"It means a lot to me to take the podium at Jerez, in front of the home fans. After such a bad year, I want to dedicate this result to my family and my girlfriend and thank the team for sticking with me for another season. We made some changes and improved tremendously, with a bike that could really push. I am very satisfied with the performance of the engine, which is something that the team has been working on. I wanted to push even more, knowing that I could be faster than Marquez, but I had a small scare that didn't so much make me nervous as let me know that slipstreaming him would be the best option."
Julián Simón (DNF):
"It was a pity to have crashed out, because I was riding fast. I had a bad start once again, meaning that I had to come back during the opening laps. We had some very fast times, and I think that I would have been able to have caught up with Smith after Iannone had crashed. Races are like this; I think that I got a little bit too excited about riding in front of the fans in Jerez. In any case I am happy, because we are still close to the top man in the standings and are able to go to Le Mans ready for a better race."

Jerez GP - Qualifying: Team Aspar Quotes

250cc
4th Álvaro Bautista 1.43.451 (20 laps):
"It was very blustery this afternoon and it made it difficult to hold your line in the corners, but it was the same for everybody. We tried a few changes to the engine setting but the results were not what we'd hoped for and I couldn't get out of the corners well. I just tried to stay focused on getting the most out of my Aprilia and qualifying as high up the grid as possible. The front row is important and tomorrow we'll go back to the setting we had yesterday, which we know works perfectly well. There were a lot of fast guys out there today but we'll have to wait and see how the race develops. Obviously the Spaniards will be giving everything because we all want to win. It will be a close race and whoever wants to win it will have to be prepared to fight all the way. Hopefully it goes right to the wire and it would be great if we had an all-Spanish podium."
7th Mike Di Meglio 1.43.792 (19 laps):
"It was difficult to get comfortable in the final session because it was so windy. We put a few different rear tyres on to try and maintain a good rhythm and we managed that despite the heat. I think my pace is good but the wind was changing things from corner to corner so I hope it isn't the same in the race. I tried to push hard for a few laps to improve my lap time but there was a lot of traffic out there. Anyway, I think this is a good result and we can improve further in the warm-up. A second row start is positive and hopefully I can stay with the front group. My objective is simply to enjoy myself, get some more laps under my belt and learn more about this category."
10th Gábor Talmácsi 1.44.058 (18 laps):
"The strong winds out on track were a real hindrance today. The bike was working well and I think we have a good race pace but we struggled when it came to setting a fast lap. I think it's just a case of ironing out a few small details and if we can do that then I'm sure we can close the gap. Basically we need to improve rear grip and corner speed. We tried a few different tyres and modified the chassis setting but I still don't have a great feeling for the bike. I tried to push for a faster time but the wind made it difficult. In general I'm satisfied and I think that we can have a good race tomorrow from the third row. Hopefully we can take the little step forward we need in the warm-up."
125cc
1st Julián Simón 1.48.237 (17 laps):
"This morning the track conditions were perfect so it was a shame that the wind came in the afternoon because it prevented us from significantly dropping the lap times. I fought as hard as I could against the wind and the truth is that I felt quite comfortable, even though I had more than one scare. If the race is in these conditions it will be important to stay concentrated otherwise there is the danger of getting caught out. I'm really happy with our performance today and I think the race could be between Smith, Iannone, myself and maybe another rider that knows how to take advantage of a slipstream. I'll be working as hard as I can to take the win, which would mean a lot to me, and the pole position today has given me a huge boost. It would be the perfect way to set up what could be a great season for us."
2nd Bradley Smith 1.48.434 (19 laps):
"It was a difficult session because of the wind but it was a great battle for pole between Julito and I. I worked a lot on my position on the bike to try and adapt to the wind. Obviously I would have liked to set pole but it wasn't to be and the important thing is I'm up near the front. If the conditions are consistent tomorrow I think we can expect a similar situation, and it will be a case of making as few mistakes as possible. It's hard to say what will happen because when it is so windy riders can take advantage of the slipstream much more but in theory if you look at the lap times there are three riders - Julio, Iannone and myself - who should be out in front. This is 125cc racing though and there are bound to be more contenders for the podium."
5th Sergio Gadea 1.48.955 (15 laps):
"I'm really happy because I usually struggle to get on the pace here but I've been on it all weekend. The clutch was slipping at the start of practice today and we lost some time. I was worried it might cost us but I managed a 1'48.9, which I'm satisfied with. Hopefully I can get a good start and run at the front. My target is a podium, which would lift us after two difficult races, and if it's not possible just pick up as many points as possible."
Jerez GP - 250cc - Results Qualifying
After having an engine problem Mapfre Aspar rider Alvaro Bautista still managed to finish fourth-fastest in today's 250cc qualifying and will start from the outside of the front row tomorrow. Teammate Mike Di Meglio will be behind him in second row while Balatonring Aspar rider Gabor Talmacsi starts the Jerez race from 10th position on the grid.

Jerez GP - 250cc Quotes after FP1

1st Álvaro Bautista 1.43.429 (22 laps)
"Setting the pace on Friday is the best way to start the weekend. I felt comfortable even though I didn't have the same feeling I had in the recent MotoGP test here. I was struggling to get into the corners and it all felt too slow, although the lap times weren't too bad. The track conditions are different to when we tested here because of the extra heat and maybe that's why we're having to work a bit harder to find the right setting. I'm satisfied with the setting we've found for the first day and with the lap time, so let's see if we can improve tomorrow and get back to the level we set here in the winter. We've still got a full day tomorrow and I'm sure the lap times will get closer. Aoyama is looking really strong and I'm sure he'll be one of my main rivals on Sunday."
5th Gábor Talmácsi 1.44.278 (18 laps)
"I think my position today is quite good and I'm happy with the lap time, although we did have some grip problems and I couldn't set a consistent pace. The main issue is with the rear and I can't open the throttle without getting the feeling I'm about to be thrown into the air. We didn't have the right carburetion settings at the beginning of the session but luckily we sorted it out for my final run. We have to reflect on the work we've done today so that we can set quick times tomorrow and a consistent rhythm."
7th Mike Di Meglio 1.44.385 (19 laps)
"It was a tough session because we struggled to get on the pace at the start although we weren't too far off by the end so I'm happy. I would have preferred to be a little closer to the top and a little faster but we've still got the whole of tomorrow to keep working. The grip levels are different compared to the last time we rode here at Jerez and the wind was a factor too. We tried a variety of rear compounds to try and improve traction and we've got a few more ideas for tomorrow. We used the set-up we found here in the winter and the results were good, but I hope that tomorrow we can take that little step forward we need to get closer to the front."
Jerez GP - 125cc Quotes after FP1

1stBradley Smith 1.47.385 (15 laps)
“I went out with my mind set on setting a fast pace from the start. We’ve struggled to run at the front in the first two rounds and it has been frustrating so it is important that we were able to go so quick today with such relative ease. My feeling with the Aprilia and the circuit was fantastic and I felt really confident. I could notice every slight improvement with the set-up and that helped me get faster as the session went on. We couldn’t have made a better start but the points don’t get dished out today, nor does pole position, so we have to stay focused on keeping this up for the rest of the weekend. We have a few small changes to make for tomorrow but in general I’m really happy.”
2nd Julián Simón 1.47.689 (16 laps)
“The truth is that I felt really comfortable today and everything went well. As the session went on we got closer and closer to the setting we had here in the winter and it worked well. We could maybe do with a bit more speed through the corners but in general I’m pleased with the performance of my Aprilia. We still have plenty of time to work on the bike tomorrow and hopefully we’ll have a race in perfect conditions. I think it’s going to be a close race on Sunday and that gives me even more motivation to set a fast lap time tomorrow and be up there from the start.”
5th Sergio Gadea 1.48.722 (17 laps)
“I’m really happy because we’re at the right end of the time sheets in practice again and that is very positive for the race. Jerez is one of the circuits I like the most but I’ve not gone too well here in the past so it is important to build up my confidence. I’m a little disappointed because even though the lap time is good I still haven’t found the limit of the bike and my riding was very mechanical today – I wasn’t having fun. We’ll make a few changes to the front end tomorrow to improve our position ahead of the race. The engine performance is incredible so once we sort the front end out we’ll be in great shape.”
