Post-Quali Quotes From Mugello; 125cc

2nd Gábor Talmacsi: 1.58.467 (13 laps):
"I am very happy, because we are back on the front row and have left behind some other problems. I have to wait and see how the race develops, but the Aprilia is working perfectly. Since China we have found the right direction, and the bike is cornering smoothly without us even hitting the limit. There is room for improvement when passing on the corner, which is in any case fantastic. Tomorrow I expect a tight race, and we are 100% prepared for that -we might even improve the bike tomorrow. We have the plan to start strong and not look back, and I have the confidence in the bike to do that."

5th Sergio Gadea: 1.58.631 (13 laps):
"I am satisfied with how the session went; although I was a bit lost at the start, I felt progressively more at ease and things started working out. I wanted to catch onto the back of Nico Terol, but he nearly crashed so that plan went out of the window. It wasn´t his fault, but we both lost time from it. We were on course for pole, but fifth isn't so bad. I am sure that in the race nobody will break away, so we will try to push as hard as possible to reduce the group. We'll see what pace we need when the race starts."

32nd Pere Tutusaus: 2.02.195 (14 laps):
"In yesterday's sessions I couldn't get much data because the track was so wet; I like the track, despite it being bumpy and difficult. I don't yet feel comfortable with my riding style here. We were going round in 2'02, but I hope that we can reduce that in the race by a second and finish in the top 20. I know that it will be difficult, but a fast start would put us in the fight. The key will be choosing a fast tyre."

Post-Quali Quotes From Mugello; 250cc

2nd Alvaro Bautista: 1.53.447 (20 laps):
"The result is good but I think that if it wasn't for traffic over the final few laps I could have improved my time. I'm satisfied because the rhythm is quite good and if the weather tomorrow is like it was this afternoon then I think we have the set-up to fight for a good result. I aim for the best possible result in every race and if I can win tomorrow I'll obviously go for it. If not I'll just do my best. It's difficult to escape here because of the long straight, which makes slipstreaming so important, but we have a strong pace. I'll just try to get the best out of the set-up of my Aprilia and try to enjoy riding it!"

12th Hector Faubel: 1.54.578 (19 laps):
"I'm happy because today was the best I've felt with this bike. I saw that I'm capable of running at the front and even though I start from twelfth the lap times are really close and with a decent start I can have a good race and continue to improve, which is the most important thing. If my best result this season was a ninth then the target for tomorrow is eighth. seventh. as high as possible! The only tactic I can have for the race is to go hard from the start and make up as many positions as I can. Hopefully I can stay in the second group. I like this circuit and I want to do well here. I'm angry because I'm only a tenth off eighth on the grid but I'll take my frustration out on the track."

Mugello GP: 250cc Quotes after QP1

5th Álvaro Bautista: 2.07.876 (16 laps)
“First of all I want to apologise to the media and acknowledge that I was wrong not to speak with them after the Grand Prix in France. I was disappointed but that’s no excuse. Here we’ve come to work as hard as ever - this morning it was going well and in the afternoon the feeling was good in the wet too. Towards the end of the session I opened the throttle too far and crashed by riding with too much confidence. Luckily I escaped without any serious injury and hopefully I get the chance to improve in dry conditions tomorrow because it looks like it will be a dry race.”

18th Héctor Faubel: 2.12.025 (18 laps)
“We’ve tried a lot of things today to try and go faster in the wet but we haven’t found the way forward because the track was completely soaked. Hopefully tomorrow is dry so that I can try some more things and improve my qualifying time and grid position. I’m sure this can be a good circuit for me, even on a 250. Last Tuesday in Madrid I was given the bronze medal for Sporting Merit by Jaime Lissavetzky – it was incredible.”

Mugello GP: 125cc Quotes after QP1

7th Gábor Talmacsi: 2.19.698 (10 laps)
“The general feeling is positive. On the last lap I was on course for pole but I made a small mistake that cost me some time and I finished seventh. Free practice went well but in the afternoon it was almost like the engine of my Aprilia felt tired. I’m sure I could have gone faster in the wet but in any case I think the performance of the bike, the team and myself are all satisfactory. I have to sit down with the mechanics now and work out why we weren’t even faster and see where we can improve tomorrow.”

19th Sergio Gadea: 2.21.852 (11 laps)
“It was an unusual session. I started off well but suddenly dropped down the order. The track was covered in puddles and I didn’t want to crash and make life difficult tomorrow, which is forecast for sunshine. I suppose if I’d pushed a bit harder I would have been in the top eight but on the last lap when I wanted to push it was too late. Even though I’m quite far back I’ll work hard tomorrow because in dry conditions I won’t be happy with anything outside the top positions.”

27th Pere Tutusaus: 2.23.928 (11 laps)
“My first impressions of the track are good. I think it’s a track with good grip, despite being wet. This morning we only did six laps because we wanted to try a few different things. In the afternoon we were fast and the team are pleased. We should be a little higher but for my first time here on a new track and in the wet I am happy. We still have a lot of improvements to make but we have tomorrow – hopefully it’s dry and I can get my references for those conditions.”

Bronze Medal "Merito Deportivo" for Hector Faubel

Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Faubel was honoured with a bronze medal of the Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo in Madrid on Tuesday.
The medal is awarded in several categories for athletes who achieved success in their respective discipline and promote the Spanish sport.
Hector received the medal for his success in the 125cc class over the last years with the pinnacle being his runners-up spot in 2007.

Last week Hector signed a contract with his hometown Llíria to promote it during the 2008 season. The city not only sponsors him on the track, but is also featured on Hector's official website.

Earlier this month Hector signed a contract with EQULIBIRA, a coaching company that will help Hector prepare for each race. From now on he will have weekly sessions in their facilities in Valencia where he can profit from their special coaching methods.

In other news 125cc Bancaja Aspar rider Sergio Gadea has contributed his crash helmet, worn in Le Mans and signed, to an auction that benefits UNICEF.
Spanish radio station 97.7 Radio held the auction last Saturday with bids for the helmet starting at 900 Euros.
UNICEF arranges this auction every two years and collects personal items of successful athletes to support the cause.
Aspar teammate Hector Faubel also contributed a personal item - a signed monkey - as well as Spanisch football clubs and other athletes.

French GP: Quotes - 250cc Riders

10th Héctor Faubel:
"We took a big gamble on the intermediate tyres, but when it rains racing becomes a lottery. At the start I got off well, and I moved up a few places, but at the midway point the track started to dry up and I found myself back down the field. I am happy in any case, because it had been a difficult weekend. Now we have to move on from this and think about Mugello, which is a circuit that I love. If we're lucky we should take that step forward that we have been chasing."

14th Álvaro Bautista:
"I prefer to think about the fact that our pace was good all weekend, and that our team are competitive. The race didn't go how we wanted, and we are obviously having some bad luck this year. The start wasn't good for me, and I stalled on the first corner, so I started to ride more carefully so as not to make any mistakes. I was suddenly far down the field and it was too late for a comeback when the conditions changed."

French GP: Quotes - 125cc Riders

12th Pere Tutusaus:
"I am very happy, because I didn't like the rain until four days ago. I felt comfortable and was able to take points, and for me the race split was the key moment. I was able to take off extremely fast, and was eighth without knowing anything about it! I tried to avoid being swamped by the rest of the field, and was able to overcome my nerves and keep my position. I've been in the points for the past two races, and every day the Aprilia is working better."

14th Gábor Talmacsi
"I am disappointed, because I had a good plan and I was fast during the whole weekend. I tried to ride calmly throughout the race, but I made a mistake. I don't know what happened, but suddenly I lost grip. It might be because I slid into the corner more than at other parts of the circuit. Despite the crash, I was able to take points after rejoining the race. I feel good about the weekend up until now, because we took a step up and have become competitive again."

20th Sergio Gadea:
"At the start of the race I went all out from the line, and felt that the pace I was imposing was good. As the laps ran down and the rain hit the track I started to feel less comfortable, and I nearly crashed on a number of occasions. Then we had the wet race, and I wanted to get a good start to recuperate positions. However, I dropped down to last place. Then I had some riders crash in front of me, and I wasn't able to do anything. The weekend has been a good one, and there is still a long way to go in the championship. I hope that we can continue on the right track when we get to Mugello."

French GP: Quotes 250cc Final Quali

2nd Álvaro Bautista: 1.38.479 (15 laps)
“It was a shame that they stole pole position off me by just a thousandth of a second at the end of the session although I am still happy because my pace is good. I would have liked to start from the front position but at the end of the day the front row is the most important. We’ll see what happens tomorrow – I have a good set-up and good feeling with the bike. The team have done a great job for tomorrow but we have to wait and see what the conditions are for the race. If it rains I’ll take things steady and try to find my pace before pushing the limits and trying to have fun!”

13th Héctor Faubel: 1.39.450 (12 laps)
“The rain cut the session short and we weren’t able to complete many decent laps. I’ve improved compared to yesterday but so have some of the others. The setting is decent as far as the chassis is concerned and that’s the most important thing because I can put the bike where I want it. Now my only thought is on getting a good start and fighting for the top ten. A couple of tenths faster and I would have been on the third row but generally things are positive. Looking at the pace of the others I think we can have a good race.”

French GP: Quotes 125cc Final Quali

1st Sergio Gadea: 1.43.515 (15 laps)
“Physically I feel better than yesterday and I’m happy to be on pole, even though I’m not completely satisfied with the session because we didn’t improve our time. The bike is running well, Aprilia have got behind us and it looks like we’ve seen the light again. The most important thing is that the engine is perfect. Today we didn’t manage to get inside 1’44 but my pace was consistent so I’m confident about the race. I suppose Smith will be up there because he is looking strong but the idea is to push hard from the start and see who can stay with us. Le Mans is a circuit I love, with some hard braking areas, and I want to fight for the podium. This is like a go-kart track, where you always have to be wary of an attack!”

8th Gábor Talmacsi: 1.44.210 (13 laps)
“I feel happy – not with eighth place but because I know I can go faster. I was improving as the sessions went on but in the final section I kept running into traffic. I tried to wait for a gap but it wasn’t possible. The engine is working well and I’m sure we can shave more time off the lap. The general feeling in the team is that we’re ready for tomorrow whether it rains or not. My lap time wasn’t amazing today but I’ll take away the positives, which was my consistency, and at the end of the day that’s the key thing for tomorrow.”

29th Pere Tutusaus: 1.46.416 (15 laps)
“We still need to make a big step forwards but we still have the warm-up to try and improve. Tomorrow is not going to be an easy race because of the starting position. This is a track with a lot of heavy braking areas and hard acceleration and I haven’t adapted well to it. I’m watching Gábor and Sergio on the bike and it’s incredible. I don’t know if I’m lacking confidence at a new track but I just can’t do what they do. The bike is working well but personally I can’t get a feel for the track so I have to keep working hard to find something tomorrow.”

Video: Alvaro Bautista & Pere Tutusaus on Paddock GP

YouTube user GaSs34 uploaded the recent feature of Mapfre Aspar rider Alvaro Bautista on the Spanish TV show Paddock GP.
It is a very interesting insight into Alvaro's life and he shows some places in Talavera as well.

The same user also uploaded two clips of Bancaja Aspar rider Pere Tutusaus from Paddock GP. One features him at the Spanish Championship CEV in Valencia, the other one is a short profile.

French GP: 250cc Quotes after QP1

1st Álvaro Bautista: 1.38.479 (22 laps)
“We were fast from the start of the session with a full fuel tank and did a great job throughout. At the end on new tyres the other riders improved and we had to fight hard to the end to make sure of provisional pole. It was my best ever lap at this track – last year I did a 38.8 but I managed a 38.4 today. My feeling with the bike is good, everything is under control and I’m happy. I’ve never been on the podium at this track so lets see if, after such a strange start to the season, Le Mans can be the place that the luck returns for good. I’m really fast in T4 so I’m looking to the other sections to make up time.”

16th Héctor Faubel: 1.40.182 (18 laps)
“Today was a tough day for us and a few things came up that were out of our control. First it was a spark plug and then there was a problem with the exhaust pipe, which cost us a lot of time and meant we only got five or six useful laps in. We changed the chassis in both sessions because the bike felt too long but we didn’t have time to compare the results. I’ve never been on the podium here and I don’t feel a particular affinity for the track but we’re here to improve and I think another second will see us in the top ten.”

French GP: Quotes 125cc after QP1

1st Sergio Gadea: 1.43.515 (15 laps)
“The morning started fantastically with the fastest time, but after the free practice session I felt a little off. I was scared that I might not be able to ride this afternoon, but with medication I got rid of my headache. The work today was perfect; not just for the position, but also in the respect that the team keep on working hard and the bike is going well. We seem to have rectified the problems of Shanghai by making various changes, independent of whether we win or not, the important thing is to be competitive, and I’m going to try my best for a good result this weekend.”

11th Gábor Talmacsi: 1.44.769 (12 laps)
“I am a little disappointed, because the start of the qualifying session went well. Then I stopped to change tyres, and the bike’s performance dropped and didn’t allow maximum usage. I came in a couple of times, but we couldn’t get things together and opted for the second machine, with just four minutes left. I hope that it stays dry tomorrow, and then I can look at the top places. The positive thing is Sergio’s provisional pole, as know we have some data to work with.¨

28th Pere Tutusaus: 1.44.416 (15 laps)
“The track is one that I am liking; really beautiful and one at which I’m hoping for points, as in China. I gave my all, but I’m 28th at the moment and I don’t consider that a good result. Luckily it’s just the first go, and we have some more time to work on things. The morning session was the better of the two, we lost some of our feeling in the afternoon. The bike was working well, but I didn’t feel comfortable. I hope to move up a few places tomorrow.”

Chinese GP - 250cc - Quotes

Héctor Faubel:
"This morning the weather changed, making it a wet race, so we decided to use a softer setting. The first ten laps saw me move up to seventh with Pasini and Aoyama, but when the track began to dry then my tyre started going off as expected. Overall it has been a good weekend, because we finished in the top ten. It could have gone better, but I’m thinking of France and the next step."

Álvaro Bautista:
"This wasn’t what we were expecting from this race. We dominated the practice sessions and were the stronger team over the weekend. This morning in the wet warmup I was comfortable, and in the race I put myself in the lead, but the wet is a lottery and this time it was my turn to lose out I suppose. It’s a pity, because I was sure that we could have done well, it was just a case of losing the front and being unable to avoid the crash. I was able to get four points. My team and Aprilia are doing a great job, and I feel strong on the bike. I just have to hope that we are a bit luckier in the future."

Chinese GP - 125cc - Quotes

Gabor Talmacsi:
“This morning in the warmup I had a good feeling in the wet, and I was convinced that I could win today. Iannone was faster than me when the temperatures began to rise. I wasn't sure then if the engine would last out. I could have made a move on Mike but I decided against taking the risk, and I was just praying on the last three laps that I'd be able to get to the line. I think that in these conditions the podium is very important for Bancaja Aspar, and this weekend my bike was perfect. We have returned to being competitive, which is important for the championship.”

Pere Tutusaus:
“I had a great first lap, and I'm happy to see that the practice sessions are bearing fruit. The warmup was more difficult than I thought, but I was eager. We didn't hav the exact wet setting needed, but even so this result is very good and I perhaps could have been in the top thirteen with a better fine tuning. I am very satisfied and will keep making goals.”

Sergio Gadea:
“My team did an excellent job all weekend, so I can't blame them at all. I had a good start and was up with the top five, but I had a bike problem before the first lap had finished. I always give my all, so when everything is together I do a good jo. It’s a pity to have not been able to rejoin the race. Now I’m going to put this behind me and focus on France.”

Chinese GP: Post-Qualifying Quotes 125cc

Gabor Talmacsi
"The front row is a very positive result. I can start from a great position if I get off the line well, and the bike is working good. We're not perfect yet, but we're on the right track and we think that some warm up modifications will help us on our way. My main goal for tomorrow will be to get on the podium, but we have to bear in mind that there are lots of hungry young riders out there. The times aren't as fast as last year, but everyone is bunched together and I will give my all as always, whilst remaining calm.

Sergio Gadea
"I am happy because we aren't so far off the front. Taking into account how close together the times are, and that we aren't at 100%, this is a good result. Everybody is working hard, and we will try some more things tomorrow, so I'm calm. You can go a second faster round here, but I was out on my own without drafting, so I didn't benefit from that. The results will reflect the maximum effort that I put in at every race".

Pere Tutusaus
"I'm very happy, because we took my best grid position to date at a track that I wasn't familiar with. Time on the Playstation helped me a lot before the weekend, and it's through that that I got to know the track. The team have been working really hard and we were able to lower our times, We've been steadily improving all weekend, and I think that we can have an excellent race. I'm highly motivated and my goal is a top thirteen placing. That way I will get points for the first time this season. The first laps are going to be incredible, so I'll pick a good tyre and go for it".

Chinese GP: Post-Qualifying Quotes 250cc

Alvaro Bautista
"I think that we have a good pace and things are pretty clear for the race. Today’s result has boosted my morale, and even if it rains then I feel strong and I’m going to have fun with the bike. The track conditions were worse than yesterday, with more heat and humidity, so I am very happy even though we could have gone faster. I wasn’t able to pick up the pace with so many people waiting for a draft. If the race is dry then we have the pace, so my intention will be to go at 100% and ride on my own, as it is in the wet."

Hector Faubel
"We did possibly our best work of the season so far this weekend. It’s a pity that we weren’t able to get on the second row, so it leaves a bittersweet taste not to have been up at the front. It seemed like the session had finished three minutes early! There were so many riders going round slowly. Tomorrow I will go all-out to get amongst the group, and to keep up my pace."
